JAMB Reduces Exam Questions And Time, Questions To Be Uploaded 5 Mins To The Exam

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Wednesday said the board may reduce the timeline for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) from three hours to two hours.

Similarly, Use of English that used to have 100 questions will be reduced to 60 questions while the other subjects will be reduced to 40 questions each.

He further stated that question papers will be uploaded five minutes to the examinations in order to check malpractice and questions leakage.

He made this known during the Strategic Planning retreat on Supervision and Evaluation of 2017 UTME examinations.

He said: “As for the 2017 UTME, it is likely we reduce the duration of the examinations. We are looking at two hours for the examinations instead of the present three-hour timeline. This is in line with international best practices.

“As for the candidates, for their age, the maximum time they can sit for examinations is two hours. Even in terms of international standard, for primary school pupils, the maximum time for examinations is between 45 minutes and one hour.”

He said JAMB has embraced new technology which will make the UTME comfortable to write by students in privileged environment and those in rural areas.

He equally confirmed that about 300,000 candidates might sit for the mock UTME examinations on April 8 which will be used to test run its new technology to make its examinations easier for students.

JAMB Scraps The Use Of Mouse, Adopts “Eight-Key Device” System For 2017 CBT Exam

In order to deal with the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has disclosed that it will adopt an “eight-key device” for the 2017 UTME.

Speaking during the Strategic Planning retreat on Supervision and Evaluation of 2017 UTME examinations the JAMB Registrar noted that in order to ensure equity and level playground for all candidates taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight (8) keys without the use of the mouse.

All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A,B,C,D for responses (answers) to questions and keys P, N, S and R representing different functions as follows:
P = Previous question
N = Next question
S = Submit responses when candidate has finished examination
R = Reverse (do not intend to go further to submit again)

According to him, this new method will eradicate the challenge of low computer literacy and phobia for mouse by some candidates.

On the new arrangements for the visually impaired candidates, the JAMB Registrar said Digital Bridge Institute in partnership with the board has agreed to set up three dedicated centres in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018.

But for the 2017 UTME, board has reached an understanding with the association for the blind persons in Nigeria and blind students in Lagos that an abridged approach would be used for the 2017 UTME, whereby all prospective blind candidates would be invited to three centres in the country for special assessment in their subjects of choice and relevance to their desired courses and programmes.

What Issues Are You Facing With 2017 JAMB Registrations?

It is nearly 1 week the 2017 UTME registration commenced. We believe by now many prospective candidates should have registered for the examination.

However, it has been reported that many candidates have encountered various challenges while trying to get the E-PIN, process or register for the 2017 UTME.

We have decided to create this thread as a solution platform.

If there are problems you may have encountered, you can post them here using the comment box.

Other prospective UTME candidates that may have solutions to the problems will give their responses to the issues. And If need be, a Examwap Admin will proffer a solution to the problem.

Please be sure of the solution to the problem before providing one, to avoid misleading others.

This is not an avenue to ask questions about subject combination and courses offered in schools.

Has anyone registered for JAMB 2017 UTME? Share experiences here!

We're calling on any JAMB candidate, who has successfully registered for the JAMB 2017 UTME, and has collected his/her e-slip as evidence of registration.

Please, your brothers and sisters are finding it difficult to complete their own registration and over 1.5 million candidates are expected to register for this exam.

If you have successfully registered (and collected your e-slip), please share your experiences here and if there was any special procedure you adopted to help you register quickly.

You are also free to share the exact and active Accredited JAMB CBT centre that you registered with.

Any information you share on this thread about registration will be valued.

15 Universities You Can Easily Secure Admission In 2017

Many of the students applying for 2017 UTME would like to apply for admission to an institution where they stand a chance of being admitted.

Following observations, most candidates who apply for admission into over-competitive institutions like UNILORIN, UNILAG, UNIBEN etc. end up not gaining admission.

So instead of applying to these over-competitive ones, why not try these other institutions that are less competitive and can give you a better chance of being admitted.

So based on last years statistics, below are the list of schools that are less competitive (meaning they do not have a high number of applications);

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
Modibo Adamawa University of Technology
Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State
Federal University, Lokoja
Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State
Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State
Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State
Federal University Of Petroleum Resources, Effurun
Federal University, Kashere
Federal University, Wukari
Federal University, Oye-Ekiti
Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi
Federal University, Lafia
Federal University, Ndufu-Alike
Federal University, Dutse

2 Compulsory Novels for JAMB 2017 UTME Use of English

JAMB has recommended 2 Compulsory Novels that candidates are to read before their exams, starting 6th May, 2017. The 2 Novels are;

1. "In Dependence" by Sarah Ladipo Manyika for UTME Candidates

2. "The Last Days at Forcados High School" by A.H. Mohammed for Direct Entry Candidates

According to the instructions, candidates will be tested on these 2 novels in Use of English, which is compulsory for every candidate, regardless of the course you intend to study in school.

A lot more JAMBites are familiar with OPTION 2 above, being that it was the only Novel that was used in testing during the 2016 UTME. OPTION 1 however, is a newly introduced Novel for 2017.

While a lot more students are only interested in buying registration forms, they neglect to look deep into other instructions, which may be critical to the success of their exams in May. That's why Myschool has decided to dwell on this important issue, via this thread.

From the instructions released by JAMB, it is clear that "In Dependence" ought to be for UTME candidates alone, while "The Last Days at Forcados High School" will be used by Direct Entry Candidates.

If you go by the instruction stated above, this simply means that UTME candidates will get questions asked from the book "In Dependence", while Direct Entry will get questions from "The Last Days at Forcados High School".

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN EXAM
In as much as, JAMB has clearly stated and differentiated between the 2 texts, THIS IS AN EXAMINATION and JAMB is free to test you from any source they deem fit.

Whether you are a UTME student or a Direct Entry Student, we, The Myschool Team, will advise that you get yourself acquainted with BOTH NOVELS. There is no knowledge lost with doing so.

Please go out of your way to adequately prepare for this exam by Studying both novels and expecting questions from either of them, whether you are a UTME or Direct Entry Student.

The novels are not too voluminous and the stories are interesting for you to read within the next 2 months. You should be able to read and understand the entire story of both novels.

For those of you who have the Examwap JAMB CBT Mobile App or even the Examwap JAMB CBT Software for Computers, you can revise 2015 & 2016 English Questions to see various past questions set on "The Last Days at Forcados High School" previously by JAMB.

There should be no boundaries to what you should study. Ensure you cover the Entire JAMB Syllabus for your subjects and read extensively.

We will be creating other threads as per revision for the Novel "In Dependence", as time progresses so ensure you visit the Examwap Website at least twice daily.

If you have issues about the novel that you feel Admin and other students can help you with, don't hesitate to post it as a comment, then check and wait patiently for a reply.
