THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNIUYO BASIC STUDIES & UNIUYO PRE-DEGREE PROGRAMMES.
An understanding of the differences and similarities between the Basic studies and pre-Degree Programmes respectively run in the University of Uyo would be very helpful
in determining which way a prospective candidate should go as the quest for admission into the school this year.
I had thought of defining the boundaries of either programmes separately before but had to effect a change of plans since that would be like boring you with so much stories. . . .and I don’t like doing that. so, i'll make it very brief but complete.
In a nut shell, Pre-Degree programme in the university of uyo is for Jamb candidates who wish to undergo a one year programme in the school which does not necessarily mean that they have been admitted. Such candidates must have scored up to 180 points in JAMB 2013. On completion of this programme, the candidates (now semi-students) would take an examination, which when successful would usher them into 100level in the programmes they did during Pre-Degree.
On the other hand, candidates who go for Basic studies programme in the university of uyo will be prepared for admission into schools in Ukraine or to take the the Interim Joint Matriculation Board examination (IJMB). This means they may also be exposed to Ukrainian syllabus and on completion of their programme within one year, shall be given the IJMB examination in which if they are successful would be offered the IJMB certificate.
Holders of the IJMB certificate would subsequently be admitted into the 200 level of the degree offered by the University of Uyo through Direct Entry Jamb on the courses listed HERE . Candidates applying for this programme must have taken the JAMB UTME 2013.
This Basic Studies Programme is actually a collaboration between the University of Uyo and Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Zaporizhzhia State Medical University
National Aerospace University, and Poltava National Technical Yuric, Kondratyuk University, Ukaraine.
what is the meaning of CONSORTIUM OF UKRAINIAN UNIVERSITIES?
By CONSORTIUM OF UKRAINIAN UNIVERSITIES, we are simply referring to an association of Universities in Ukrain (three of which are listed above ) that will accept you into their schools on completion of the one year non-residential Basic Studies Programme offered by the university of Uyo.
Courses available in the Consortium of Ukrainian Universities are:
Medicine & Surgery, Pharmacy, Aerospace Engineering, Computer and Software Engineering,
Oil & Gas and Management.
.....................................................................................................................
As you can see, none of these programmes directly offer you admission into the school this year. Instead they prepare you for qualifying exams which may offer you admission later on into either 100level or 200level programmes in the school depending on what you go for. As you must have known, only registration for these programmes costs N15,500 each. That is to tell you what will be involved in the long run. Post utme and DE costs N2000. Can you see the difference? Don’t worry if you have the cash.
Now that you have known this, follow the links below to know the courses on offer this year (2013) and other useful info like exam dates, venues, time etc as you apply for the exams coming up soon .

Many students who did very well in JAMB UTME
often have problems with the post UTME. Not
because they are not intelligent enough but due
to the fact that they have no idea of the kind of
questions that will come out in the exam. We
thought about this and came out with a
compilation of all the past questions and
answers from the 2006/2007 session till the 2012
session post UTME.These questions are available
anywhere in Nigeria meaning you don't have to
travel down.
Students should go through the past questions
as many times as possible because on many
occasions questions are repeated as it is the
same syllabus.

ASUU Strike: Bayero University
Students Protest In Kano
Tired of staying at home, hundreds of Bayero
University, BUK, students in Kano, northwest
Nigeria, on Thursday, staged a peaceful protest,
and gave the Federal Government and
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,
one week to resolve their issues or face the
wrath of Nigerian students.
The students also called on President Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan to increase the annual budget
for education to 26 per cent, insisting that doing
so will solve the myriad long-term challenges
facing Nigerian universities.
According to them, ASUU would not be asking
for too much if they insist on the full
implementation of the 2009 ASUU /FG
Agreement, which to their views, will bring
about the required face-lift needed in the
universities across the country.
Comrade Sani Ibrahim President of Students
Union Government, SUG, BUK chapter said
Nigerian students must register their
disappointment over government’s
insensitivity to their well-being, adding, “we
decided to take this action because we are tired
of staying at home. Our mates in other
countries are in school; why should the case of
Nigerian students be different.”
In his words, “as part of the struggle to fight for
our right is being pursued, I will like to salute
our students for their patience while receiving
the negative consequences of bad governance.
We believe that the delay in resuming lectures
in our Universities is not only lamentable but
also devastating. We believe even more
strongly that now is the time to let our leaders
know that enough is enough and we shall wake
up and say no to injustice being meted out to
Nigerian students.
“Similarly, we call on the Federal Government
to respect the 2009 agreement reached between
government and ASUU. We also call on the
government to review the annual budget for
the education sector from eight per cent to 26
per cent, so as to ensure adequate
rehabilitation of infrastructures in our
universities, including hostels, laboratories,
potable water and constant supply of electricity.
“In the same vein, we are calling on ASUU to
give government more opportunity to dialogue
so as to quickly resolve the differences for the
best interest of Nigerian students.
We are giving ASUU and Federal Government
one week to sort themselves out and resume
lectures; otherwise, Nigerian students will look
for other alternatives to fight for our right.
Education is our right and no one should take it
away from us,” Ibrahim stated.

LearnAfrica Plc (former Longman Plc) has
congratulated the candidates of the 2013 June/
July National Examinations Council (NECO)
SSCE and the council itself for the significant
improvement of performances and reduction in
examination malpractices.
Results released recently by NECO indicated
that about 70 per cent of candidates obtained
five credits and above - an improvement of
about 18 percent compared to the 2012 figure of
about 52 per cent.
In a press release which was signed by the Head
of Marketing, LearnAfrica Plc, Mr Allwell
Nwakwo, and made available to newsmen on
Wednesday, the company attributed the
improved outcomes to quality teaching by
teachers, hard work by students, availability of
quality resources and seamless organisation by
the examination body.
“We have no doubt that there is still room for
improvement. That is why we are investing in
motivating Nigerian students through the
LearnAfrica-NECO Excellence Awards and other
initiatives of our foundation.”
It will be recalled that in 2012, the corporate
social responsibility arm of the company, the
LearnAfrica Education Development
Foundation, instituted the Excellence Awards to
recognise and reward outstanding NECO
candidates, schools and teachers in all states of
the Federation and the Federal Capital
Territory.

BUY UNIUYO POST UTME PAST QUESTIONS
HERE AGAINST SECOND CHOICE EXAM
When i told some first choice Post UTME
candidates who are aspiring for the University
of Uyo this year that the questions shall repeat,
they thought i was joking. Now, its clear as was
'prophesied'. Yesterday's exam was an eye-
opener as countless number of questions
churned in from the Uniuyo Post UTME past
questions in all the courses, not even a single
course was left out.
So, if you're there and have not yet gotten your
copy of the University of Uyo Post UTME Past
Questions & answers FOR UNIUYO POST UTME
APTITUDE TEST 2013/2014 SECOND CHOICE
EXAM, then you're dulling.
Remember, not every Past question is Past
question. If you need the ORIGINAL University
of Uyo Post UTME aptitude test Past Questions &
answers FOR UNIUYO POST UTME APTITUDE
TEST 2013/2014 SECOND CHOICE EXAM, then (call 08166273164)
THIS IS FOR CANDIDATES WHO SCORED
LOW MARKS AT UNIUYO POST UTME 2013.
From reactions recieved thus far, it appears not
so many candidates turned out well at the just
concluded
uniuyo post utme 2013/2014, of which the result
has been released. . . .and is being checked.
now, if you score a low mark in your uniuyo
2013/2014 post utme aptitude test, do this:
1. simply divide your score by four (4).
2. if on dividing, you have up to 45 marks and
above, then you are safe. your possibility of
getting admission into uniuyo increases as
your score increases. . . .especially if your JAMB
score was high also.
3. but if your score is below 45 marks, then this
is for you.
now, if by the time the uniuyo first batch merit
admission list 2013/2014, and your name is not
on that list, quickly buy the uniuyo
supplementary admission form and register.
that is the only remedy for the first choice
candidates who couldn't make it at the just
concluded uniuyo post utme aptitude test 2013
with high scores.
it is risky to think of getting admission into
uniuyo with 183 points in JAMB and 140 in the
post utme when you're going for professional
courses like Law, Engineering, Medicine etc.
Even those other "less regarded courses" will
reject you.
so the best thing to do is, wait for the uniuyo
supplementary form, buy it when out and
expect your name on the 2013 uniuyo
supplementary admission list. remember, you'll
not be required to take an exam again, its just
for you to buy the form and expect the best
while preparing for the worst

65 percent credit pass recorded in 2013 National
Examinations Council (NECO) result
After three years of consecutive mass failure at
Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
National Examinations Council (NECO) on
Thursday announced that 69.57 per cent
candidates had five credits and above in the
June/July 2013.
Announcing this year’s school based
examination in Minna, the Registrar and the
Chief Executive of the Council, Professor
Promise Okpala said that 681,507 candidates
representing 66.63 per cent made credit pass
and above in English Language while 668,314
candidates or 65.50 percent recorded same in
Mathematics.
In Biology 66.88 percent had credit and above,
66.68 per cent of the candidates that wrote
Physics and 66.41 percent Chemistry candidates
equally made credit pass and above.
The NECO boss also said that out of 1,034,263
candidates that sat for the examination which
had 128 blind candidates, 998,624 candidates or
96.55 per cent made five passes and above.
The elated NECO registrar also said that low
percentage of candidates were involved in
examination malpractice.
Giving a comparative analysis of students’
performance in the last three years, Okpala said
the council witnessed “rises in performance
from 15.84 per cent in 2011 through 51.66 per
cent last year to this year’s 69.57 per cent”.
Attributing the improved performance on
federal and states governments resolve as well
as all other stakeholders to improve the quality
of teaching and learning in the country, Okpala
said the improved performances over the years
were”empirical indications that the efforts of
the President, Ministry of Education are
yielding positive results”.
REGISTRAR of the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu
Ojerinde, has lamented the sorry state of
education and poor quality of teachers in the
country, calling on stakeholders in the sector,
particularly colleges of education, to help
improve on the quality through standard
admission criteria.
Ojerinde said these, on Tuesday, during the first
technical meeting on the 2013/2014 admissions
to colleges of education, national diploma and
national innovative diploma-awarding
institutions, at the Adeyemi College of
Education, Ondo.
He said: “You are reminded to strictly follow
the guidelines as outlined by the proprietors of
your institutions and the Technical/Non-
technical ratio for polytechnics and mono-
technics. The quota for each course and the
criteria used in admitting the candidates must
be indicated on the print-outs.”
He attributed the decline in the quality of
education and teacher training to poor funding
and deteriorating learning environment, saying
the Western Region did its best to put those
conditions in place.
“Those days were great. Teachers in training
had full scholarship, even a stipend of five
pounds per month. We had free
accommodation, free meals and in fact, free
textbooks supplied by the Western Regional
government under the government of Colonel
Adekunle Fajuyi of blessed memory. He
encouraged teachers and teacher training.
“At the end of Nigeria Certificate of Education
(NCE) training, we could teach GCE Ordinary
level to the top classes of secondary schools
without any problem. Now, what is the matter?
What is happening? Why is it so bad in
education nowadays? NCE graduates at this
time cannot defend their certificates. They
indulge in destructive and meaningless
protests,” Ojerinde said.
Provost of the Adeyemi College of Education,
Professor Adeyemi Idowu, said examination
malpractice was one of the factors working
against quality education, expressing optimism
that the five-year jail term recently stipulated
against offenders would go a long way in
reducing the menace at secondary and tertiary
education levels.

JAMB registrar laments poor quality of
education, teacher training
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) on Tuesday said that the introduction of
Computer-Based Test (CBT) in its examinations
would curb examination malpractice.
Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, JAMB’s Registrar, said this
in Ondo at the first technical meeting of the
board on 2013/2014 admission to Nigeria
National Diploma and National Innovative
Diploma awarding institutions.
The meeting took place at Adeyemi College of
Education, Ondo.
Also JAMB has commenced the inspection of
schools which would be used as CBT centres in
the state.
Ojerinde said that CBT was also a way of
making the candidates to be ICT-compliant.
He said that CBT would make the results of any
examination conducted by JAMB to be ready
within a week.
“We have gone digital in JAMB. What we are
going to do now is to make use of computers
and within a week, the results will be on the
Internet.
“Unlike before when we were using the
analogue style; the new scheme will stop
malpractice,” he said.
Ojerinde, however, noted that everybody now
wanted to go to the university to obtain
degrees, adding: “Obtaining a degree is not the
only way to make it to the top.
“We are encouraging as many people as
possible to develop interest in technical
education and entrepreneurial education,” he
said.
Also speaking, Prof. Adeyemi Idowu, the
Provost, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo,
lauded JAMB for devising strategies to curb
examination malpractice through the
introduction of CBT.
“The recent introduction of computer-based
examination is one giant stride which I believe,
as time goes on, will drastically reduce the spate
of examination malpractice,” he added.
In his remark, Prof. Femi Mimiko, the Vice-
Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University,
Akungba Akoko, said that the introduction of
CBT by JAMB would make Nigerians to be ICT-
compliant.
“Ojerinde’s tenure has brought about an
uncommon transformation in JAMB; it gives
hope that Nigeria has ability to transform
itself,’’ he said. (NAN)

(JAMB) on Tuesday said that the
introduction of Computer-Based Test (CBT)
in its examinations would curb
examination malpractice. Prof. Dibu
Ojerinde, JAMB’s Registrar, said this in
Ondo at the first technical meeting of the
board on 2013/2014 admission to Nigeria
National Diploma and National Innovative
Diploma awarding institutions. The
meeting took place at Adeyemi College of
Education, Ondo. Also JAMB has
commenced the inspection of schools
which would be used as CBT centres in the
state. Ojerinde said that CBT was also a way
of making the candidates to be ICT-
compliant. He said that CBT would make
the results of any examination conducted
by JAMB to be ready within a week. “We
have gone digital in JAMB. What we are
going to do now is to make use of
computers and within a week, the results
will be on the Internet. “Unlike before
when we were using the analogue style;
the new scheme will stop malpractice,” he
said. Ojerinde, however, noted that
everybody now wanted to go to the
university to obtain degrees, adding:
“Obtaining a degree is not the only way to
make it to the top. “We are encouraging as
many people as possible to develop interest
in technical education and entrepreneurial
education,” he said. Also speaking, Prof.
Adeyemi Idowu, the Provost, Adeyemi
College of Education, Ondo, lauded JAMB
for devising strategies to curb examination
malpractice through the introduction of
CBT. “The recent introduction of computer-
based examination is one giant stride
which I believe, as time goes on, will
drastically reduce the spate of examination
malpractice,” he added. In his remark, Prof.
Femi Mimiko, the Vice- Chancellor,
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba
Akoko, said that the introduction of CBT by
JAMB would make Nigerians to be ICT-
compliant. “Ojerinde’s tenure has brought
about an uncommon transformation in
JAMB; it gives hope that Nigeria has ability
to transform itself,’’ he said. (NAN)
